Report Distribution in V8

You don't have to just Actions Generate Sample Data to get your XML...I
Actions Test Form and Print Preview or Generate Only; it gives me the entire
dataset I created in the BAQ and if that dataset is too big to work with I
usually set up my options or filters to filter it down. Generate Sample
data only gives you two lines of data and it isn't a whole lot to work with

And you missed the part between Actions Design Crystal and Database Set
Datasource Location, when you connect your .rpt to your.xml datasource. No
more ODBC for 8.xx But you can if you want to. But Steve is right BAQ
Report Designer and Dashboard Reports for that matter offers so much more
seemlessness and security and performance. I also don't use the Actions
Design Crystal Report because it forces you to use the BAQReport.rpt
template. I have my own templates set up and I just go right into Crystal;
open them up and connect to my xml datasource

If you need more instructions they are on Epicweb's answer book. Just search
for How To Create Crystal 8.03 And I will put a doc out on this Files
section.

Steve, also pointed out well, that Epicor allows you to modify their
existing reports utilizing creating a new Report Style and modifying their
datasource the Report Data Definiton. More information on this can also be
found on Epicweb's AnswerBook.

I'm not an expert in this, but I have done my share of Crystal Reports in
Vantage 8.03. Most of the ones I have done are BAQ reports, so I'll stick
to that.

First Create your BAQ with all the data you want in the report.

Then go to Executive Analysis / Business Activity Management / General
Operations and open BAQ report Designer. Go to Actions / BAQ Report Options
and make sure you have all your paths set correctly. Then create a new
report definition. Fill out everything you need on the Report Designer
screen and then use Actions / Test Report Form to make sure it is what you
want.

Use Actions / Generate Sample Data.

Use Actions / Design Crystal Report which will lauch Crystal Report. Design
your report using the sample data.

Once you are done with your Crystal Report, save it and go back to the BAQ
Report Designer. Use Actions / Deploy BAQ Report.

Go to the Vantage Main Menu and go to System Management / Utilities and
launch Menu Maintenance. Add a new menu item and for the program type
select BAQ Report and select your new report. Save it. Restart Vantage and
your new report will show up in the menu.

This is a very simple explination, but it should give you a general idea on
the steps involved.

You can also create a new style for an existing Report Data Definition. You
do this in System Management / Company Maintenance / Report Style. Select
an existing report ID. Go to the Styles / List tab and see what styles are
currently available. I like to start by making a copy of the print program
(Crystal Report) for the standard style. Use Crystal Reports to modify the
copy of the report you made and save it. You can now add the report as a
new style to the Report ID and make it the default is so desired. The
report style will now be an available option anywhere that report is
available.

You can also modify or even create new report data definitions using Report
Data Definitions in Company Maintenance.

As you can see there are many options available to distribute reports, these
are just a few of them but they are the ones I use the most often. I
probably left out a lot of stuff, it can get complicated but it does provide
a lot of flexability in reporting. Vantage doesn't have a lot of reports
out of the box, but I am really happy with the options they give you to
create and share your own reports.

We have just purchased Crytal Reports XI Professional and are wondering how
custom reports are distributed for use in Vantage V8.x. In the past we
compiled them for addition to the Vantage menus. This doesn't appear to be
an option in this version.
