Wondering what other companies are doing as far as reporting
quantities from the production floor? Is this something that
employees do periodically throughout the shift(ie. when a certain
quantity is complete and ready to go to the next operation)or wait
until the end of the shift.

For us there are several scenerios -
- if a person works on the same job all day - they just enter the quantity at the end of their shift,
- but even if they stay on the same job and clock out for lunch break, they report their quantity and then go back into the job after lunch and report the balance at the end of the shift.
- Every time they complete their operation (or change jobs), they report the quantity at that time.
-Occassionally if the parts are moving from one machine to another to have the next operation start right away, they report quantity after a pallet or basket of parts are complete and moving on.
Hope that helps.

We have report at every stack (shipping package size typically every
couple of hours) and any partial stacks when they are done working on it
for the day. We enforce this by having a custom routine in Vantage that
prints custom labels at the reporting workstation (to indicate
part/job/quantity etc.) and must be affixed to product before it will be
accepted at the next stage. This attempts to drive out error and force
accountability. These shipping size stacks are also moved into the
warehouse via a WIP movement using the Material Queue. Again a custom
label this time with Customer information, barcodes and such are
printed. This attempts again to double check quantities.
It's not perfect, but if everyone could reliably count from 1 to 50 or
so it could be. :)
Best of luck,

We're still on 6.1, so I'm speaking from that perspective (I don't know if it has changed in 8.x):
It does not make a difference on their efficiencies how often they report quantities, but we have found that the more often they do report, the more errors get made - they start losing track of what was reported. And it can make a difference on the efficiencies in job tracker - if they clock out say at lunchtime and don't report a quantity and then report all of the quantity at the end of the shift - then it looks like they had 0 efficiency in the morning and really high efficiency in the afternoon, but it all works out on the Production Detail Report.
