Restore database

This works, but i believe you need to start and stop the database using the
9.1C progress explorer tool before running schema changes.

I don't think the Prorest has changed. I know it works from 4.0 backups to
5.0, so I would bet it would work from 5 to 5.1.

The commands are the same between 5.0 and 5.1, but you cannot simply restore a backup to 5.1 and then run it in 5.1 - you would have to do Schema Changes and Data Conversions.

When I backup 5.0, I use the epic50\progress\bin\ backup path. When I restore to 5.1 (before doing schema changes and data conversions) I use the epic51\progress\bin path the the PROREST command.

Yes, you can restore the 5.0 database using the 5.1 path and send it to whatever destination driver/path you wish (ie. the x:\epic51\vantage\db folder). Then the 5.1 database will see it there and run the schema changes and then data conversions.

I don't know about copying from one company to another. Unless you have the import/export utility from Epicor, I don't thing that's possible.
