Ruddles Error?

Thanks. The Vantage server does not have anti-virus software and neither
does the terminal server on which the session was running. This error has
only happened this once, so maybe it was a one-time fluke. I will pursue the
matter if it happens again.

I recall that this has been known to happen in older versions of Vantage,
but does know what this error might mean in Vantage 5.0? I searched Eranet
for "ruddles" and came up with nothing.

The application, \\ruddles/i_91a_nt/91a/nt/patch/26c/work/rx/exe generated
an application error. The exception generated was c0000005 at address
77fcb9b1

Thanks

Brian,

"Ruddles" was the bane of my life (and a handful of fellow Vantage
administrators) for several months when we converted to 4.0. What we found
out over time was that "ruddles" is the name of a test server at Progress
Software. I don't think that anyone ever found the cause of the problem, or
if they did I never heard about it. The OS exception c0000005 means that
the program tried to access a memory location that it did not have
permission to touch, so the operating system shut down the application. The
OS is supposed to tell you what program was running at the time but for some
odd reason it refers to the ruddles test server. My best guess is that some
program left an explicit reference to some file in the software and since it
can't find the ruddles server - it chokes.

Did this show up on the server or a workstation?

I found it in the event viewer on our terminal server. So its kind of hard
to say because that machine is running Progress as well as being the host
for all of our remote users. I assume it happened during a client session.

Brian
Brian,

This is Burt G that used to work in the Tech support dept. I think it still
stands that the error is produced by progress and a virus software program.
Try disabling the virus software and try it again.
