If we have an engineering change to a part, or quality issues, or what have you, we will check run out, then add a memo to the part.
When you put a part on a purchase order and it has run out checked, it will warn you. If the part is a component on a job, it will also notify you when you check "Engineered".
If you put run out on a manufactured part, the message "Part xxxx is being phased out. Good only while supplies last. Continue?" will appear when you go to create a job.
Either way, it doesn't prevent you from going ahead, it's just a reminder to find out what's going on before you proceed.
