Running same part # in two presses

Hello,
We have one machine running a part. We are getting another mold to put in another press to run this part also. They both will have separate tool #'s and obviously different machine numbers. Help desk says I have to either create a different finished good part # or manually separate the jobs into two jobs and change the machine # and tool # to one of them. There has to be a way to make this happen. I am sure a lot of companies can run one part in many different machines at the same time. Help!

Potentially you could define a special operation where you have both machines and both molds as required resources?

The question is, how do you capture operator hours and/or machine hours (burden) costs on one job when running multiple machines? That would take two different jobs, or maybe, like above, and operation that requires two machines.

I’m just thinking out load here… hopefully someone out there has done this already.

Should be able to do it via Part Revisions and separate jobs…

Here’s a sample from our system…rev 001 runs on one press, rev 002 on another. Different op code in each version etc.

@JMPCONJ could Alternate Methods be used in these cases?

Dunno…LOL…I’m just the IT guy. I know we’ve got a handful of parts that can run on more than one press here. All depends on the press…two-wide, three-wide, four-wide…so the revisions/op-codes cover the time requirements accordingly.

Hi Tanya!

Do they ALWAYS run in the two machines in parallel, that is, do you treat it like a 2-wide cell Like @JMPCONJ? That could be done on one job then.

But if it’s sometimes one, or the other, or both, then @dcamlin’s idea of an alternate method would work. The primary for one tool and machine and an alternate for the other tool and other machine. When you Engineer the job (do a Get Details), you have the option to select which method.

Are these lot tracked? Do you need traceability back to tool/machine?

When I say 2/3/4-wide, that’s how many “streams” of finished product we’re generating from the single press…depends on paper width etc. One job, one press, not parallel. Hope that clarifies.

Our customer keeps increasing their orders for this part and we cannot keep up. So we bought another mold to have it run at the same time in a different press. They will run at the same time and also different cycle times. We do lot track these part. We do need traceability back to them.

Depending on your lot tracking requirements, you may need to have separate jobs to know which lot was made from which tool/machine. :person_shrugging:
