Sales Gross Margin Report Error

I chalked this one up to [windows] user profile corruption, recreated my profile and all is well now.
Thanks for you help in troubleshooting it.

When I run Sales Gross Margin Report I started getting an error:

Error in formula <Font_Color>.

DefeultAttribute;'
A number, currency amount, boolean, date-time, or string is expected here.

Have you changed the Report Data definition? It looks like an error that
occurs when a field is in the crystal report but the field is missing from
the XML dataset.

Usually opening up the Crystal report and attaching it to the XML file for
preview will isolate the culprit.

Thanks Ross.
Since I haven't touched the report nor the RDD, nor the xml. I just double-checked the Report style - it is using the original SGMargin.rpt and the system RDD SGMargin.
This is really weird since it worked fine about a month ago and neither file has changed.
I am not sure what to make of it.

I found and tried to open the report, as you suggested, tried print preview, and I got a very similar error "A number,...or string expected" (See Photos/Vantage Errors/Number Expected), then it opens Formula Workshop with the formula in question (See Photos/Vantage Errors/FormulaWorkshop).

if CurrentFieldValue < - then 255 else
DefaultAttribute;

I should mention that I get the same error/behaviour on my test server (on a separate machine).

Help!

Here is what else I found:

When I try to open the report I also get the error:
The saved data will be discarded since one or more formulas failed to compile. (See Photos/Vantage Errors/FailedToCompile)

The current datasource location for the report data set was:
C:\_projects\_ReportWork\SampleData\SGMargin\Sales Gross Margin Report04677.XML

Setting it to an old xml from when the report ran didn't resolve the problem.

Not knowing what it does I tried to change the "-" to aa "0" [there were 5 instances] and then it worked, kinda - just showed a bunch of 0 values.

Any suggestions?

Plamen,

I don't see a font color formula in the original SGMargin.rpt report.

The formula looks incomplete. Has the report ever been edited? There is no
integer to compare to, only an operator.

I don't know what version you are on but I have sent you the original
version from 8.03.407 to your email.

Thanks you so much.
I tried to run it with your report and ... got the exact same error message. Then I figured to ask someone else to run it from their computer and it ran fine - both for yours and mine. I recently started posting the Vantage version at the beginning of my first message to avoid ambiguity - a lot of people here use different versions.
My next guess is the crystal viewer/runtime on my machine needs to be reinstalled. (I did recently try to install a second instance of vantage - for the test server - without reinstalling .net, crystal runtime, and web) . It is still a mystery why it doesn't show on other reports. I will post what I discover.

Ok this is weird. It is somehow related to the local machine (even under different users) and only for this report (other reports run fine). I repair/reinstalled the client completely starting from .net and still it does the same thing.
Any ideas?

You can try to delete the local application data folder on the client. That
has fixed strange behaviors at times.

Each OS has them in slightly different places. On my PC it is:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Epicor\Vantage

Exit Vantage. Delete all of the version folders that are under the above
path. Restart Vantage.

See if that makes a difference.

Ok this is weird. It is somehow related to the local machine (even under
different users) and only for this report (other reports run fine). I
repair/reinstalled the client completely starting from .net and still it
does the same thing.
Any ideas?

Vantage version at the beginning of my first message to avoid ambiguity - a
lot of people here use different versions.

It is still a mystery why it doesn't show on other reports. I will post what
I discover.

Getting warmer now. While it didn't fix it, it gave me the idea to try a different Windows user - and that worked ok.
So there must be a bad file/folder within my user profile. [it is not the .rpt noted in the error but possibly one that is used to recreate it].
Are there any files/folders stored in / linked to the individual Windows user profiles?
