I would like to know if we can create a purchase order based on the sales order. Which document addresses this?
If the part on the sales order is ticked ‘buy to order’ (this can be set against the part as default, or just on specific order releases), then this will create a purchase order suggestion.
You can then review these suggestions in the ‘PO Suggestions’ screen and generate a purchase order from there.
It will be worth reading the documentation for this as from memory there’s some part set up you’ll want to do around suppliers, lead times etc for this to work smoothly.
Thanks Barry
If this part is linked to a BOM that contains many components, should this part be marked as ‘Buy to Order’ or ‘Make to Order’? Additionally, what should the child parts of the BOM be marked as?
Going to need a lot more info as it sounds like you have a part that’s more complex than simply sourcing an item to sell on to a customer.
Do you manufacture any of the child parts that make up the parent part?
Are the childs purchased in? If so, do you hold stock or do you buy specifically the exact amount needed and never hold stock?
For any child parts that you buy in, do you process them further in your factory?
If it is part of a BOM then the component parts would be set as buy to order (BTO) and the SO line would be be Make to Order MTO. To generate the PO suggestions then I believe MRP would need to be run. (MRP peeps throw me a bone please)
As per @Hally comment I agree that lowest level component parts would be BTO and the top level would be MTO. And yes you would need to running MRP for the suggestions to populate.
If you have a more complex BOM with multiple levels then please post more details as per @imak comments, as there is a lot of considerations to get that working properly.
Thanks all, let me check how many level do our BOM have. Have any method / report to search, my currently part is set as BTO or MTO?
