Rob:

I've given it a test run in a variety of scenarios and this seems to be an
excellent solution. Thanks for sharing your experience.

We're trying to go live next month and I'm tearing my hair out trying to get a handle on sales tax. We drop ship 95% of our sales to out-of-state addresses so the majority of our customers are exempt, but I still need to report those dollars in gross sales. I've set up our customers with OUT as the Exempt code in the customer record, however, invoices for some of these customers are still having sales tax added.

Can someone explain the heirarchy the system follows in determining sales tax. (ie,product group, part number, then customer record.) Does anyone have any advice on how to make sales tax work properly? (I don't have any tax interfaces enabled.) Also, if I have a group of invoices and none of the sales are taxable, (which is often the case) the Sales Tax Report doesn't do anything; it doesn't even print a zero dollar report. Is that normal? Is something not set up properly?

I would greatly appreciate ANY sales tax help.

Fay,

We don't use the Exempt field due to the reporting issues.

Instead we set up a tax code of Interstate Exempt with a rate of 0.0%.
This will then show on the sale tax reports as "taxable" sales but at
zero tax.
