Same Part Numbers between two plants

Travis,

Yes, you can have the same part number at more than one plant. I'm doing it. All you have to do is add a new plant on the Plant sheet in Part Maintenance. Well, that's not _all_; you do have to set up the primary warehouse and all of that, but it's not difficult.

Create and use an alternate routing for the second plant. I've not had to do that but if you read the help for the Engineering Workbench you should find the instructions. I know that I have tripped over them more than once. If the routings are similar, you can get details from the parent routing and edit as needed.

Unless you're doing something really uncommon, it shouldn't take undue effort to set up.

I have a bunch of parts at two plants. Most are common hardware items - wire, washer, screws, and such, but some are things that we manufacture at one plant and send to the other for final assembly. Those I list at the final assembly plant as 'Transfer' parts, and stipulate the plant at which they're made as the place from which we get them. We don't have the situation of manufacturing the same part at two locations, but that's just us. Other parts are 'Purchased' or 'Manufactured' as appropriate. It's really one of the less painful things to do in Vantage. Tedious, perhaps, since I've not found a way to do mass updates on part records, but not too difficult.

Good luck!

Currently they both use different part numbers when creating new parts. So the couple of questions I have are as follows:

Do I need to set anything special up to get this started?

Two of our plants are looking to start using the same part numbers.
Currently they both use different part numbers when creating new parts.
So the couple of questions I have are as follows:

Can we have the same part numbers between 2 plants?

If we can have the same part numbers how does Vantage handle the
routing?

Do I need to set anything special up to get this started?

How are other companies handling this in Vantage?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
