Scheduled WIP Capture

We are on 9.05.701

Using a process set for COS/WIP does appear to work. I recall it has dynamic parameters.

Although we have turned it off for the moment as soon as we were told that once it is run you won't be able to recall time records for dates prior to COS/WIP up to date.

Funnily on testing this it appears the information may be incorrect.

We are still coming across a lot of anomalies with regards to entering in time (labor). Weather this is just because our users are still coming to grips with changing systems or not is another thing.

The steps around generating AR invoices is rather long winded to say the least.

We are a services company and really only need to capture time by employees against projects.

Cheers
Simon Hall

I didn't change the date range prior to setting it up. I have the WIP Capture set to run again Friday evening. When I set up this time, I set the dates and also checked the appropriate checkboxes before assigning it to a task. We will see if this does the trick or not.

Hi All,

I'm setting up a scheduled task to run our Capture COS/WIP Activity on a weekly basis.

Inside the Capture COS/WIP Activity window we always have to check the Post Cost of Sales/MFG Variance and Capture Outdated transactions checkboxes before running the process. Does anyone know if there is a way to automatically have these options checked before the process runs via the scheduled task?

When you schedule a task, the options you choose will always run with the task. You can modify these by going into the system agent, selecting a task, go to actions and View Task Parameters.

Try in your test environment...We do similar for MRP and check the boxes needed and criteria etc and schedule it (without a process set).

When we were on the same version of Vantage, we had a problem using the
dynamic option with the dates.

The first time we scheduled it - it worked great.

The next time, it used the same dates and all the inventory transaction were
in the prior period.

You might want to test this if you are going to schedule this job.

Thanks for the replies!

Cathy, I'm not going to use the Dynamic option, but yes, I've had Vantage pull that on me where it decides to change things all of a sudden after working.

Karen mentioned about running things without a process set. I really am not a Vantage guru and don't play one on tv. Mostly I do mods here through code, so I don't know all the ins and outs of Vantage workings. To me it looked like the way you schedule something to run is to use the 'Save Process Set' button and set it to a process set and use the schedule I have created. Maybe I'm off base as to how this is done? Is there an easier (and or more reliable) way to schedule this? I've looked at the 'Help', but that isn't very clear.

Thanks again for all the help and suggestions!

Kurt

A process set is really to schedule a few things to run at once – so if you want to run wip then another then another something, you add them to a process set, then schedule the process set instead of scheduling all three separately

Subject: [Vantage] Re: Scheduled WIP Capture

Kurt

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Hi All,

The WIP Capture Process did work, but it only ran one days worth of transactions. It appears it ran the one day of transactions based on the day I set it up to run. I didn't change the date range prior to setting it up. I have the WIP Capture set to run again Friday evening. When I set up this time, I set the dates and also checked the appropriate checkboxes before assigning it to a task. We will see if this does the trick or not.

Thanks,
David

Again, thanks to everyone for the help! I know you all have many things of your own to be doing, but as I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm not that up on Vantage workings yet. From some of the replies, the scheduling still seems a little confusing. Can I just ask if I have a decent understanding of how to schedule (COS/WIP in this case)?

1)I start creating a schedule in the System Agent Maintenance.
2)Then a new Process Set ID in Process Set Maintenance using the newly created schedule.
3)After that, set the schedule I created in Schedule Process Set and check Recurring.
4)And finally, I set the COS/WIP the way I'd like it to run (set needed checkboxes), click the Save to Process Set button and in the Save to Process Set form, select the Process Set and click OK.

Does this sound like the correct way? Thanks very much for everyone's help.

If you select the schedule you want to use in your process, and check Recurring, and then press the submit button, the process will be stored in the System Agent under that schedule. It will continue to be executed according to that schedule until you delete it, even if you restart the server. The System Agent and the System Monitor found in Utilities are very useful for tracking and monitoring your scheduled processes. If you are going to run a process on a schedule, you'll want to use dynamic dates because you rarely want to run a process against a fixed date. It is more likely you'll want to run the process based on the current date or some offset from it.
