Scheduling 8.03

I was trying to make it so that some users could see the bars of the
schedule but not make changes to an operation's start time or
resource. Once I understand what was causing the scheduling board to
crash, I may try to set table JobOpMac to read only for this class of
user. In theory, that would let them go into the Resource Schduling
Board but not make any changes.

Is anyone else having trouble with scheduling in 8.03? We have used
scheduling intensively here for years but testing in 8.03 consistently
crashes when we change a work center from the scheduling board. It
brings down the database. The server has to be rebooted before the
database (Progress) will restart. Support has not responded. We were
planning on switching over January 1 but that is not going to happen
now.
I have heard of this happening during PO Entry in 8.03 also, but have
not seen it happen.

I was wondering if you have a minute to answer a
question about upgrading. If so, we are currently at
6.10.535. We are having trouble with getting support
for this version. I have heard a lot of horror stories
concerning upgrading to ver 8. How do you feel the
experience was?

Our upgrade experience to date has not been good. It is difficult to
get support to respond. We are not going to convert to version 8.x
until we regain confidence in the database and support's ability to
respond.

Is there a way to make a copy of the Resource Scheduling Board read-
only? The menu has a "Read-only" check box but that prevents the user
from even selecting a Resource. There must be a way to do it with
customization. It is just not clear to me which "Wizard" to use.
What part are you trying to make read only?

If you upgrade, re-enter most of your data. This way data is clean. We
went from DCD to 8.0 last year and only brougt in customer and supplier
master files and still experienced problems. I have talked with another
company who transferred from 6.0 who tried to convert data and ran into
problems. Epicor does offer translation services and did provide us
with sound recommendations.
