Scheduling - Two pallet system - one spindle - two jobs run in t

We went with making each pallet a resource with a production calendar of half a shift each. Labor reporting is the easy part letting the system split actual hours based on the to job's different running rates. The hard part is scheduling.

If you always run parts with relatively equal run times together it's a bit easier but not much. When determining an operation's running rate, the load and unload time is negligible. However, if the other pallet is empty that time now adds to the part's actual cost.

How long a job takes to complete is totally dependent on what's running on the other pallet (or not running). I don't know of a perfect answer.

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has experience with  two pallet systems in E9?

There is a two pallet system with only one spindle we want to set up for jobs running in the same window of time.

Right now I have no idea how to set this up i9n E9 so the jobs overlap for continued production on more than one pallet.

Under resource group maintenance look into using Burden = Labor and Use Estimates. When clocked into multiple jobs (in this case 2) simultaneously it will apportion time in a weighted fashion to each operation.

Thanks Rob.... but I didn't include enough detail before.

In our case the operator is not logged in to both jobs at the same time.

We are trying to get the schedule to put a longer running series of parts in between short running parts without waiting until one job is complete

i.e: grids running 3 hour cycles and another part running for 10 hours a part...

Run a 10 hour cycle then two -three hour cycles, then back to the 10 hour cycle.

This way they both keep going but they are not being run at the same time.

Because the 10 hour
cycle will take 90 hours to complete the job, it won't schedule it until
all the three hour cycles are done… Significant delays in starting
this job this way.

Any ideas on this?

Just one more bump...

Still looking at a scheduling puzzle with a MAZAK 630-5X-II 2 PALLET
E9 schedule has several small jobs run in regular intervals that push a longer job out much later.
One job is set up on one pallet and others on the second pallet.

Looking for setup ideas that would allow some overlap of jobs on the schedule in E9.

Have you thought about putting another resource in the group to represent the pallets instead of the machine?

Yes, thanks.
I have been wondering about about that, but no testing yet.
One resource for each pallets make sense.
Still wondering what I could do to handle there being only one spindle?
That’s where I think you really should be clocked into both jobs at the same time… let the system split the time for you. From my perspective it does reflect what the reality is..
