We had to do something similar with MRP. We created five different schedules in the System Agent, each using a dynamic date setting two days out. The effectively prevented MRP from planning anything "today" and "tomorrow".

Monday's MRP process was scheduled to run at 12:01am with a dynamic Schedule Start Date set to Wednesday; Tuesday's had a Schedule Start Date of Thursday, etc. The set of five schedules looked like this:

Run Day Schedule Start Date
========= ===================
Monday Wednesday
Tuesday Thursday
Wednesday Friday
Thursday Next Monday
Friday Next Tuesday

Yes, it stinks having that many schedules setup, but it did the job.

I customized the form, but duh the form doesn't trigger, so my dates don't change. I can't find where to add to the dynamic list to add my own either.

Here's what you'll get :

- Object designer
- Proxy Generator
- BL Tester
- Adapter creator
- Application Generator

For the rest, you'll have to buy Visual Studio .NET 2003 and Infragistics NetAdvantage 2003 volume 2.

So it sounds like just having Visual Studio .Net is not enough to
actually extend Vantage...

Hello

We purchased the SDK (we are on 808G and SQL DB) and we had the training for
the tools, after that we know what not to use. The steps you need to do to
create a simple form are too complicated. Also for every new patch you need
to do several steps to update all folders with the code and re-compile the
modifications.

Also you need to be careful if you modify an existing form because after a
new patch implemented you need to re-apply the changes to the form

The other big inconvenience is with the regular SDK you do not have access
to the server code you only get the code for the client (just interface) all
the business code resides in the server.

If you are thinking to expand Vantage with new tables, this is not included;
basically the code is to add new screens and reports to the existing tables.
You need to modify the db schema to add new db objects.

What we are doing is using the customizations and VB.net. If you take an
UDxx.dll and make not visible all the default objects you can add new VB
objects and start coding in VB.Net. The other great advantage is that you
can connect directly to the SQL server and the performance is much much
better.

This way is limited by the objects that Epicor provide but in our case is
enough to create new screens that can access to any existing and new tables
and is patch-proof! In fact we use our own DB to store all new objects that
are link the MfgSys80 db.

For new reports we created a Crystal viewer (in VB.Net) outside Vantage and
we just call it and we send as parameters the report we want to run and the
parameters need it for the report. This is also is much faster than Vantage
reports but do not have the schedule capability.

All depend on what you want to do, if you can use only customization, I
recommend that.

Jose Ferrer

Hi

In Vantage there are 20 user tables named UD01 - UD20 (single table) and
like 10 (UD100) with parent-child capability that you can use to store what
ever you need.

For example in UD01 we have the ZIP code information that we use to auto
populate city, state, county and some extra data in other screens by just
typing the ZIP code.

In order to use them just create a menu option and use program
"Epicor.Mfg.AD.UDxx.dll". There is one dll per table.

Once you add the menu option you can customize the screen and add all the VB
code you want. Using just one dll (for example Epicor.Mfg.AD.UD20.dll) you
can have as many different screens as you want. (just create another menu
option with same dll and assign the desire customization)

So, you can have multiple screens in Vantage with the same feel and look and
security too.

Jose Ferrer

Sounds pretty cool Jose.

Do you need the SDK to do this?

I followed your instructions and I get an error message that says:

Error Detail

============

Cannot access this menu item: Extention Test

Inner Exception

===============

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Inner Stack Trace

at Epicor.Mfg.UI.Startup.launchUIApp(MenuRow menuRow)

Hi

In Vantage there are 20 user tables named UD01 - UD20 (single table) and

like 10 (UD100) with parent-child capability that you can use to store
what
ever you need.

For example in UD01 we have the ZIP code information that we use to auto

populate city, state, county and some extra data in other screens by
just
typing the ZIP code.

In order to use them just create a menu option and use program
"Epicor.Mfg.AD.UDxx.dll". There is one dll per table.

Once you add the menu option you can customize the screen and add all
the VB
code you want. Using just one dll (for example Epicor.Mfg.AD.UD20.dll)
you
can have as many different screens as you want. (just create another
menu
option with same dll and assign the desire customization)

So, you can have multiple screens in Vantage with the same feel and look
and
security too.

Jose Ferrer

I got it to work Jose!

I was selecting the wrong dll.

I picked the Epicor.Mfg.AD. one instead of the Epicor.Mfg.UI. dll.

Thanks for you help!

Anyone actively using the SDK? I am frustrated and about to jump in head first, so I thought a mentor might be a good idea...

My condolences.... is all I can say I've used the SDK... its not made for
human consumption.

What will you be using the SDK for? As with any new tool there is a learning curve so while it may be the ideal tool for some things, is the time to learn it worth the pay off? Sometimes a less than ideal tool is OK based on the ROI of each.

Unless you need a new business object or new tables most items can be solved using embedded customization. If you just need a new screen you can take a UD table entry screen and hide all of its controls and use it as a blank canvas. You then add new controls, events and hookup calls to any methods you need. Unless you want to there is no interaction with the underlying UD table.

Possibly Both. Just can't get to some of the things I want to customize so was going to look down another path to see if I get any ideas.

My biggest headache right now is: I have Global Scheduling set to run from a Process Set. If I use the dynamic date set, I can get it to run schedule startdate tomorrow at 11:59PM, but I want it to run w/ a date of tomorrow plus one. Can't get to the BO as it is actually a procedure. I customized the form, but duh the form doesn't trigger, so my dates don't change. I can't find where to add to the dynamic list to add my own either.
