Searching Header Comments

Cool. Thanks.
Works beautifully.
Here is a breakdown if anyone else runs up against it:

Vantage 803.407C
I created a BAQ that uses just one table: POHeader and displays just the PONumber and the Comment.
Then I use that in the Quick Search [and dashboard] to return the PONum.
I use
Criteria: POHeader.CommentText
Caption: Comment *query* [to hint at the use of asterisks]
Condition: MATCHES
Criteria: Prompt

I've been asked to create something that would allow our sales people to search the Sales Order Header Comments to be able to find a specific Sales Order. The problem I'm having is that in both Crystal Reports and BAQ/Dashboard, there is no option for a "contains". I'm not sure how to reliably or effectively search the Comments field for a certain word or two...

Anyone have some ideas?
I am looking for the same thing for PO header comments. I did a 'begins with' and supposedly he will begin adding comments starting with the word if interest (online supplier, etc). It is somewhat useful, though not as nice as a real search. We are so accustomed to Google-ing it is annoying not to be able to search a database.

Sorry that I am not getting this, but where does it allow you to type that
in within the BAQ/Dashbord? I'm using Vantage 8.0.

When you are in Dashboard Developer mode, right click in the area next to your search word text box and select 'Customize Tracker View'

Once the customization Tools Dialog form has opened, click on your textbox and in the customization tools dialog form properties tab, set the Dashboard Condition property for the textbox to Matches

Save.

I am trying to create a BAQ/quick search that allows searching the header comments of POs for an arbitrary sting.

What is the proper way to do this.

It didn't work with "matches". Returns nothing. Equals or greater than works.

Don't put any criteria in your BAQ. Your quick search should contain a critiea using the comment field with a condition of MATCHES and a criteria type of PROMPT. When creating a Matches criteria I will usually put an * before and after the caption so the user knows to do the same when they enter the search criteria

I find the Match criteria to work quite well, in fact our users are grateful for that type of search. I even use it for Customer and Supplier names because sometimes we can't quite remember how the name is entered in the system. The key for this type of search is the user must be sure to enter an * before and after the string they are searching for.

It didn't work with "matches". Returns nothing. Equals or greater than works.

I have built quick searches for anywhere that I want to search the comments and it works great and didn't take much time to do.
when you prompt you just put your string in between *'s eg. *fin*
refer to 90512 quick search quotes

They way I got it to work was the way Robert said. Make the BAQ to return
all comments then create the dashboard with a tracker view. Edit the tracker
and set the criteria to Matches. Then to test it go to your inputs and type
in *(type anything here)*

That's what I did and it works well.

It works with the asterisks! Thank you.
For some reason I can't enter a caption. I enter it but it doesn't get saved. Not sure if this is a bug. It has worked for me on other dashboards in the past.
