We are a US based company that recently acquired a company based in the UK.
As we are in discussion with Epicor to add this company to our Kinetic database, Epicor says they want/need to move our entire database to a UK based server.
Is anyone in the US doing this now? What’s the latency like? What’s your bandwidth?
It is a requirement in the UK that UK-based databases are stored within the UK.
So, that sounds legit.
We also have a second company over in the UK, but we have not brought them into Epicor (yet). They are still using their old legacy system. We have thought about doing this, but haven’t really started exploring it yet.
Very interested to hear how this all works. Apologies I don’t have any insight for you.
It’s a little bit more than this. If this company is subject to the data territory rules because it’s "independent’ from your US company, then you’ll need to house it over there. If your US company now OWNS that company, then there is a loophole of sorts in the rules.
We operate in the US, UK and NL, and house all the data here. Those three companies in Europe are 100% owned by the US company. So it’s cool - as far as I know so far. This Brexit thing may have changed it, but I haven’t seen anything yet.
The large issue is Epicor Support - they have a “US” and EMEA support center, and depending on which entity bought your site license, it will be considered a US or EMEA “site” and be serviced by that support center.
Trust me - it’s a real PITA for things like UK CSF and the like. I can get my US Support tickets sent to EMEA, but I have to beg and plead.
Similar to Mike, we had a German company but SaaS was in the US. When I was in Munich, the performance was pretty bad compared to the US. That was before Azure Service Bus. The other option they were talking about was using Azure Front Door to get onto the Azure backbone instead of using the public internet, but I don’t know how far that got.
Browser performance will be better than what we had in 10.2 with the smart client.
CSF in general… Although later versions they have removed some of the confusion from the install process. Still a bit messy for multi server environments. probably because I like to overcomplicate things.
