Send email from within Vantage

Andrew,

I don't know about 5.1, but I have been doing this type of thing in 6.0
for a while. If you check back in the archives you will find Cliff and
I have had a bunch to say about this in the last few weeks. If you
would like more assistance feel free to contact me off list with
specific questions and I will be happy to attempt to guide you. Again,
I am on 6.0, but I expect you can use it the way you intend. First step
though is to get a bit of code from your CAM. Let them know what you
are looking for, and they should be able to get you started.

To all,
Has anyone ever tried to send an email from a vb form? IE, what if
there was a button on the VB form, that when clicked, would send a
email to certain users?

I would like to do this in the RMA system. Conceptually, when a
returned item is received, the shop personnel could click the button,
and it would send an email to sales (or whoever) that the item has
arrived. The message would say something like:

The following item has been received:
RMA # abc123
Part # 987yxz

We have Outlook running on everyone's computer, including shop
computers.

This could be a poor man's "trigger".
What would the code look like to do something like this? Do you have
any you can share?

We are on 5.1.

Thanks in advance!

Andrew

Yes, I wrote a Progress SMTP e-mail program attached in Vantage or VB forms.
It uses the logged in username as the from, and the address to addresses
come from the e-mail field of all Vantage users. This allows my shop floor
data collection people access to e-mail supervisors and such without
actually installing Outlook or another e-mail package on the workstation.
