Serialized part numbers

we have some special needs the Vantage system does not fit. We have to track
a raw material serial number with a heat code, plus ours and that of the
customer. We had a third party write a program to do this.

We use them, works fine.

The only issue we've had is the system does not track the history of the
serial number; if you enter the serial number into a non-conforming and
dmr cycle and then move the serial number to another job and then to
another non-conforming and dmr sequence there's no apparent way to track
the entire sequence of events. We are using a band-aid, putting the
serial numbers tilde (~) separated into a character## field.

Suggest using all possible efforts to use system-generated numbers if
you are doing any sort of a volume of them, and that works really well.

Good luck!

Steve

We use serialized part numbers, it works pretty well. The only problem
we have had was transferring serial numbers between customers. For
instance, we sell through distribution, but we like to track who the end
customer is. Vantage allows you to transfer serial numbers from one
customer to another, but we ran into a problem where we have several
different part numbers with the same serial number sequence and once you
have the same serial number in the database twice (under two different
part numbers) it won't allow you to transfer it any more. We have an
open SCR Request with Epicor to fix this problem. Other than that it
works for our needs.

If you want more information let me know
