Wendy,

Service packs are free. All you have to do is download them from the MS
Website.

Installation is fairly simple.

The current service pack for NT Server is SP6. (There were some cautions on
using SP5). I hope epicor said 5 and up on the service packs.

Can I jump from SP4 to SP6a directly?

Can I jump from V3.0 to V5.0 directly?

Can I jump from P8.3a to ? directly?

While I would agree that it is best to update all NT machines with SP6a,
don't panic. You can update several servers on a single Saturday, or even
one evening. NT workstations can be updated as time permits, and you
shouldn't have any problems with them in the mean time. I have several NT
workstations still running on SP4, with my servers on SP6a. I plan to
update those workstations whenever I need to be in front of them.

However, I don't plan to upgrade Vantage to 5.0 any time soon. So if the
SP6a requirement has something to do with that upgrade, you may want to get
the entire Microsoft update done before you take on any upgrades from
Epicor.

Yes. All the NT4 service packs have been cumulative.

>Can I jump from V3.0 to V5.0 directly?

Nope. You will need to at least load the 4.0 software and database on the
server long enough to run the conversions. It's not really that tough.

>Can I jump from P8.3a to ? directly?

From what I've seen, you can load a patch (number after the letter, eg: 10
in 8.3A10) over an existing installation. But any time the other portion
of the designation changes (the N.NX part) you have to reinstall.

Wendy:

If you have a registered copy of WinNt 4., you can download the service paks
for free...I believe they are up to 6A now. Probably, if you don't have DSL
or a T-1000 or some other hefty service it will take FOREVER. There is a
time consideration for actually loading the SP. Also, if you load 6A (and
Vantage tech says it's ok), don't forget that all NT machines on your
network have to be up to SP6A-servers and workstations.
