Good DayNick:
APM - Advanced Print Module - best if on 32-bit. There waa
talk of a fix in 601A, but may be buggy.
Some people say Web-Portal, but most say it is OK on 64-bit.

What modules still require 32 bit? Has to be the application server?

Good Day:
Sun Is on M2K 7.0 SP 5 (Informix) but,
Going to: Epicor 9, 9.05.601A SQL (go live date is 12/1/10)
Below is what we used. 55-65 users - we think it will handle 75-80.
there were some minor changes.
Servers were Dell with two Nehalem Quad processors - faster then four
Quad of other type.
Even with all that, system is slow, but the problem is not the core
speed, but the Interface to the Workstation and the 'configuration' of
pages. MRP = 6 or 12 hours depending on if run with 3 MRP-Processes,
45-60 seconds for programs to open ( the first time each day), etc.
I wanted SSD's, but 18 months ago they did cost $50,000, but now I would
believe $4,000 to 8,000.
BUT, SSD's are only really fast I one direction ( read?) - the speed
differential is no where near the same for write.
To test, play with a USB ( same technology) - write much slower then
read. By the way, there are USB's that are 30% faster then most.
Spindles, Spindles, spindles - that is all we heard from everyone and
yes it is not for storage but for speed since each spindle can be
processing at once.
Watch out for 32 vs 64 bit - some modules still must be 32.
Also, watch out for OS - can limit how much memory you can USE ( no fit,
but use).

Thanks for making my point but where do you get your more money
equivalency? One of the fastest SSD's available is from Crucial and a
128 GB drive is $469. In your proposed 4 drive array the cost would be
$1876. Then there are the savings from reduced chassis, power supply,
thermal management, etc. In practical application you can build a 1U
server with a handful of SSD's for under $4000 that will absolutely blow
the doors off of a $15,000 mega chassis multi spindle monster.
