Server name cannot start with a number?

It's just something that has always existed with Progress. No actual reason
why has ever been given, it's just something that has become known and
that's the way it is, we just need to accept it.

Easiest thing to do to change it is to just uninstall Epicor and OpenEdge
and then you can rename it no problem and then do the re-install. However,
technically you can rename it and change all UNC references and machine name
references, but that can be a pain in the ass.

Subject: [Vantage] Server name cannot start with a number?

Hi,

I was looking at errors in the ProcessServer.server.log.

-Connection failure for host 2003s port 9003 transport TCP. (9407)
-Application server connect failure. (5468) -AppServer Connection Failure:
-URL AppServerDC://2003s:9003

I found a KB article 7598MPS that seems to explain the cause.

One of the resolutions listed was: Check the server name to be sure there
are no _ in it and that it does not start with a number. If so, the server
will need to be renamed.

This is a test server and it is called 2003s.
Inconvenient to change it now, but not the end of the world.
Just curious, anybody else has run into this? What's wrong with a server
name starting with a number?

Thanks

I've ran into this in the past. I named a server 05Appserver, it caused
all kinds of problems for us. I then renamed it to appserver05 and
everything was honky-dory.
