I have two fields I am putting into a comments field via service connect. Does anyone know of a character or a way to enter a line return between the two fields I am concatenating so they each show up on their own line?

Thanks in advance,

Ted
I haven't done this in a LONG time, but isn't thre a functoid that does
this?

There's a functoid that concatenates fields. However, I've never quite
figured out how to get a line return in via Service Connect, and Tech
Support didn't know of a way. I eventually worked around it, by putting a
special character in as a line return, then having a BPM on a new record
look at the field, and replace the special character with a line return via
4GL code.

So, the functoid combines FIELD1 plus "|" plus FIELD2.

The 4GL BPM is something like this:
Define variable oldchar as character initial "|".
Define variable newchar as character initial "~n".
For each ttTable where ttTable.RowMod = "A":
Assign ttTable.FieldName = replace(ttTable.FieldName, oldchar, newchar).
End.

Hope that helps.

I have the newest SC user guide from EpicWeb and looking through the functoid definitions nothing is sticking out at me as performing a line return.

Try concating ~r~n in between the two and see if that works without the BPM
its a long shot but it may

It just recognizes them as characters and puts them into the field. I also tried '~r~n' and '~n' in between but same results.

Try concating ~r~n in between the two and see if that works without the BPM
its a long shot but it may

That worked Kevin, thank you for the idea. It would be nice if you could do it in service connect but doesn't appear to be a possibility.

Subject: RE: [Vantage] Service Connect concatenation

There's a functoid that concatenates fields. However, I've never quite
figured out how to get a line return in via Service Connect, and Tech
Support didn't know of a way. I eventually worked around it, by putting a
special character in as a line return, then having a BPM on a new record
look at the field, and replace the special character with a line return via
4GL code.

So, the functoid combines FIELD1 plus "|" plus FIELD2.Â

The 4GL BPM is something like this:
Define variable oldchar as character initial "|".
Define variable newchar as character initial "~n".
 For each ttTable where ttTable.RowMod = "A":
  Assign ttTable.FieldName = replace(ttTable.FieldName, oldchar, newchar).
 End.

Hope that helps.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Jose, you must have an iPhone. iPhones don't like to talk business. They
do great with discussions about:

1. Living in your parents basement until you find your musical career
2. Communicating to colleagues about Occupy Wall Street milestones
3. Using the AARP app to find early bird specials in Boca Raton
4. Innovative scrapbooking ideas
and
5. Texting friends while standing in line at the Apple Store for a week to
buy another $500 gadget

A little humor for our morning. :-)
