Service Connect Workflows

Service connect is not so bad. The easiest way to build the work flows is to
turn on tracing in Vantage and do your process manually. Look at the trace
to see which services are called and duplicate that in SC.

You can order the manual if you like but there are pdf's of it somewhere in
the install directory. At one point they were an Epicweb as well, not sure
if they're still there. You will need it to figure out how to set up message
maps and i/o channels. After that it is pretty much useless.

I attached a backup of a few of our part import processes we used for bulk
part imports. You should be able to take one, change the incoming schema and
push any part data you have through it. Most of the mandatory fields are
hard coded to "default" or something like that, so check the conversions and
make sure everything you need is right.

Have fun. Send me a message if you have trouble.

~John

PS - If you get an error that says "unable to determine message map" there
may be nothing wrong with your map. Just delete the map and rebuild it. This
is a common bug in SC.

I just ordered Service Connect. There are no files in the Files
section. Anyone have any workflows they can share with the group?

My reason for purchasing was to bulk add new parts and to update the
Price Lists, and to do updates on parts like add to some UD fields
things I missed in the conversion.

Thanks for anything you can contribute, I'll certainly share any I create.

Mike
Mike,

You definitely should get a few standard workflows when you purchase
s/c. One of those is a part entry workflow. I would check with Epicor
as they should give you a few to get you going.

If not, the part entry workflow is a pretty easy one to write ( the
PartService is one of the better behaved web services! ). I can help
you along if you get stuck.

I am 100% behind you there Charles. You will HAVE to have some
training because the web services are not properly documented. This
has always been a huge source of frustration for me.

However, a little training will pay dividends, and once you get your
head around it, you will become comfortable in writing your own
workflows and things will start to fall into place.

Good luck!
