Shipping functions in 8.03.305k without Pack Out

Mr. DaveO,

400 is no remedy:
-----------------------------------------2007 Dec 19---
Daniel,

I just reviewed the issue regarding number of packages in the BOL
screen on version 8.03.400 and the number does not update based on
what was entered into the customer shipment entry screen.

This issue is in development and I have not yet heard back from them.

Thank you,

Yikes! You guys had to provide a fix for Epicor's removal of
functionality?!? Were you compensated at the standard rate of $200
per hour?

Not knowing how to modify screens, we came up with a BarTender report
that gets most of the information from a query, and has the shipping
guy fill in the rest. Not even a band aid--just an open sore.

Our CAM said that Vantage is now sold only with the Pack Out module.
A mandatory optional module, if you will.

I guess the software developers were directed to code as though
everyone has this module. It certainly makes everyone wish they had
it! And it may just compel enough customers to pop for it, thereby
minimizing Epicor's inability to meet their projected revenue.

We've already spent more money in dealing with this problem (at first
wondering what we might be doing wrong, then on the phone with
support
persons who tell us to click on a grayed-out screen, the shipping guy
hand-writing labels & adding up packages and weights, making our own
reports, speaking with our CAM) than it would have cost to buy the
module. Who knew that Epicor would let every customer without Pack
Out run into this mess without warning or solution? If only we knew
then...we wouldn't have this Vantage problem now.

Has anyone else upgraded to Vantage 8.03.305 without the "Pack Out"
module?

We recently did (from 8.00.812), and now we are finding that we can't
enter the number of packages being shipped. This is causing the
following troubles:

* we can't print package labels (subcontractor, customer, ...)
* the bill of lading no longer grabs the package count & weight from
the packing slips.

So, while Epicor investigates this, our Shipping/Receiving clerk is
hand-writing labels, and we're having whip out a calculator to multiply
part weight * count + dunnage to get package weight. Then, sum the
packages' weights to be able to fill out a bill of lading.

With 38 optional modules in Vantage (and growing), there are
274,877,906,944 ways that it can be configured. It seems Software QA
wasn't able to test any of the 137,438,953,472 ways to operate Vantage
without the Pack Out module, or they would have come across this. Alas,
an artifact of the à la carte sales model.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any remedies?

Thanks,

Daniel Toffolo

Yes! I've experienced the same thing.

In fact, we also have the trouble of not being able to print, void, or
modify packing slips entered prior to the conversion!

I feel your pain, brother!

Our CAM said that he would give us the Pack Out module at no charge if
the upgrade truly stripped us of capability. Although, he said on the
14th of December that it would happen the 17th of December at the
latest, and we're still waiting...

All in good Epicor time, my pretty!

Good luck!

Mr. Daniel: We encountered the exact same problem and were told that
it was fixed in SP400. I don't know it that is true since we just
went live earlier this month and the SP400 upgrade will need to be
tested prior to production.

Never enough time.

We just worked around the packages and weight problems by customizing
the BOL entry screen and added UD fields for weights, and packages.
A Band Aide for sure but at least our shipping department can print
BOL's.
