"Simple" BAM Question In 8.03.305K

Thanks for the tip, Charles.

did have to enter the license code. I am not sure if it required a
purchased license after that time because we moved from 8.00 to 8.03
and received the license codes then. The server portion of BPM is
required if you will be executing code outside of Vantage through
Messaging Queues. The basic and simple processes of BPM will work
without the server being installed. If the server is installed then
the BPM actions process must be scheduled within Vantage for
communication with the BPM server. I found absolutely no
documentation on how to install the server or how to set up the
message queuing process. I think this is another one of those
things that Epicor wants you to pay a consultant to come out and
setup for you. Best of Luck.

I know the answer to this is going to be really simple, but can someone
tell me how I trigger an email notification when I add a new vendor to
the database please...?

I have different departments that manage specific elements of the
vendor data ( let's say accounts and purchasing for a start ), and when
one enters a new vendor I would like to let the others know
automatically...

I am assuming it must be a Business Activity Management type process,
but I can't see how to generate an email only when a record is added...?

Any help would be most welcome...

Many thanks,

Nick
I would use BPM and RowMod = "A" in your condition.

Hi Nick,

Why not just use a BPM?

Use RowMod to catch the new entry RowMod = "A"

Create an Action to send the email.

You should be able to get what you need without any
code.

Stephen

Nice one, thanks Stephen...

I have the Epicor tools user guide which seems pretty comprehensive,
so we will see how we get on.

Thanks again,

Nick

Adding to Stephen and Daniel's suggestion, there's more you can do with BPM
than just send an email. If you have the Task Management Modules (used in
CRM, Help Desk, CRM) then you can ALSO put a Task in their Task List. The
nice thing about this is that when someone is out then the Task can be
visible without giving someone else access to a mailbox, etc. It also won't
get "lost" in a sea of other messages and remains there until complete. You
can also tag the vendor with a "hold" which can show up on BAQs and reports
on items waiting for action. There's a lot more to do than with BAM.

Mark W.
You mean they can get addictive Mark...!?

Thats sounds very good, I am just reading the book at the moment, so
when I give up with that I will come back to you and ask you how I do
it...! ;o)

We have found the task manager in the CRM module to be a bit clunky,
so this will be a way of putting it to good use. We certainly have
issues at the moment with notifications being sent out via email and
getting lost in the noise...

Thanks for the advice,

Nick

I'm new to the BPM game and have a question for the more experienced users of this feature.Â
Â
According to the Epicor Tools User Guide, there is a base level which is bundled free with the software and an advanced level which costs extra. Which level are you folks using?

Hi Ahmet,

I am also new to writing BPM's, but I don't quite follow your
question... As far as our licensing is concerned you buy the BPM
license ( "Epicor" and "free" are never words I usually put
together! ), and that's the end of it. You then have all the tools
you need.

I think you are referring to the "BPM Advanced User" setting within
your user security settings. Its located within the user maintenance
form. Once checked, you can then carry out advanced BPM actions.

I hope this helps...

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick,
Â
It looks like I misinterpreted what I read in the Epicor Tools User Guide. If some subset of the BPM functionality came with the base Vantage system, I would have used it to demonstrate its capability to my boss in order to justify purchasing the actual license, but it sounds like that won't be possible.Â
Â
I'm curious, do you have BPM Server installed -- according to Epicor this is an optional BPM component?
Â
Thanks,
Â

Thanks,

Nick

Thanks, Nick.

BPM does not need to be purchased when you get to version 8.03.400. If you
did not received the new license code for it when the sent you the disks you
just need to talk to your CAM to get them sent to you.

Thanks for clearing that up, Steve! I'll contact our CAM.

BPM does not need to be purchased when you get to version 8.03.400. If you
did not received the new license code for it when the sent you the disks you
just need to talk to your CAM to get them sent to you.

Hi Ahmet,

I don't think there is any BPM functionality in Vantage without
buying the license, but I could be wrong. Epicor actually forgot to
install our BPM software until recently so I can confirm that we had
nothing available to us until the license was activated. I guess we
must have the BPM server installed as part of the BPM install.

Sorry I can't be more helpful...

Thanks,

Nick

BPM came into existence with Version 8.03xxx. It was free but you did have to enter the license code. I am not sure if it required a purchased license after that time because we moved from 8.00 to 8.03 and received the license codes then. The server portion of BPM is required if you will be executing code outside of Vantage through Messaging Queues. The basic and simple processes of BPM will work without the server being installed. If the server is installed then the BPM actions process must be scheduled within Vantage for communication with the BPM server. I found absolutely no documentation on how to install the server or how to set up the message queuing process. I think this is another one of those things that Epicor wants you to pay a consultant to come out and setup for you. Best of Luck.

They also forgot to send the licence codes for BPM to us until I queried
why I couldn't find it after going on the training course! So don't be
afraid to ask.
