Joy,
The complexity and coding of the configurator and the load on your server largely determine the speed of the configurator. We have done one optimization cycle on our original configurators by breaking some into several stand alone product/model series and simplifying the design and coding. The over-all speed and ease of data entry has improved by at least 50%. However, it does slow down from time to time due to server load which nobody has any control over during the day.
I do hear whingeing on how slow the configurators are from time to time (and it only takes less than a minute per line). But think of it this way, how much time do you need to spend on order entry if you have to manually configure each item? Just wandering thru paper documents, then having someone re-check to make sure the product/engineering rules are followed, and finally looking for the correct part master entry will surely take more than 1.5 minutes. Add to this all the time you save down the track in Job BOM creation.
Everyone wants instant gratification (especially sales people :- ). A reality check would be helpful form time to time.
Just my 2 aussie cents.

Subject: [Vantage] Slow configuration of sales orders
We use configurator throught Sales Order Entry and have two pages
worth of input. It is very slow in completion.
Has anyone else experience this problem? It can take over 1.5
minutes to complete. We need to speed up our data entry duties but I
do not know where to begin.
Suggestions for me to forward to our IT department would be greatly
appreciated.
Thank you.
