Slow Progress Utilities - Resolved

Ahh the joys of being techie, the minute you think you know how to do this
stuff, some program steps up and tells you otherwise.

Subject: [Vantage] Slow Progress Utilities - Resolved

For your info. You may recall that back in January, I reported that I had
a
problem (and looking for help) with progress utilities running extremely
slow on a new server with Windows 2000 Server as the OS. A series of
events
occurred that crashed the server and forced me return the server to the
manufacturer, and in the course of repairing the server and then
continuing
to look for the solution to the slow utilities. The last place to look was
the system board, and contacting it's manufacturer led to a bios update
that
solved the problem. Seems the PlatiniX 4X by Quantum Designs system board
had a bad bios that would degrade memory usage only if both pairs of
memory
slots were filled (which they were). If only one pair was filled, the pc
ran fine.

Server is now running fine, but it has really been frustrating getting to
this point - also had at least two new software purchases (ARCServe2000,
and
TrippLite (ups)) that had bugs in them out of the box and had to download
patches to get them to run properly.
