So...how did the advanced 4GL and Customization training go?

Id be interested in a class on the East Coast, the closer to Maine the
better =]

I know a few group members went to the advanced 4GL and Customization
training class that Epicor held on the 19th and 20th.

How did it go?

Did you feel is was worth it? Time well spent?

Anyone willing to share what they learned?

I'm hoping it went well and maybe there is a chance to push Epicor to
host more of these types of training.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I would also like to know how it went

We are currently in talks of organising another session in NY area and would love to know how it went and if anyone is interested in joining.
We are still missing a few people to make the session worth for them.

We have 2 from canada so we have to make some compromise when we know who will participate.
Me personally I'm fine anywhere in NY.

I also thought it was very worthwhile. I've already rewritten several of my BPM's utilizing what was taught, and I plan to implement more when I have more time. If you can afford it, definitely make the trip.

I second what Rob said!

Each person gets what they want out of classes - it was kept at a good enough level that people who knew BPMs were able to still learn more. Take a look at the syllabus though, because it wasn't only BPMs - that was just day 1. Day 2 was other advanced programming.

In fact, even if you've written some complex programming and got it to work you still might want to take this class to understand why it worked, whether or not it was done the best way, and get quite a few time saving tips so it won't take you as long next time.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Day 1:

· Explanation of the Epicor Framework (base methods, rowmod, architecture).

· Tracing.

· Progress basics (for each, find, if/else, repeat, locks, can-find).

· BPM 4GL/ABL basics (this would cover the basic concepts you will use BPM for, like making fields mandatory, cross referencing data, populating data, etc).

· BPM 4GL/ABL advanced topics (this would cover using the Forward to Procedure functionality to call external progress programs, running programs persistently to re-use existing functionality – similar to what Service Connect does but in BPM, dumping data from standard tables into flat files).

Day 2:

· Customization basics (what is an EpiDataView, row rules, extended properties, like properties, foreign key views).

· Customization topics:

o Invoking searches from other objects.

o Invoking methods from other objects.

o Invoking other forms from current screen.

o EpiCombo usage (how to populate it dynamically with data).

o Embedding grids linked to UD tables (with CRUD capabilities).

Class pre-requisites

· Fully functional Vantage 8 client with the appropriate licensing on personal laptop.

· Basic knowledge of Vantage/Epicor navigation and customization/BPM is required.

Subject: RE: [Vantage] Re: So...how did the advanced 4GL and Customization training go???

I felt that the class was very good. Carlos is a patient instuctor and has done a good job with documentation. With the knowledge that I gained in the class, I have improved the BPM's and other customizations that I did prior and I am making plans for new projects.

If you have the opportunity to attend this class, you should take it. You will not regret a single penny spent.

I was hoping for an extended education session(s) at Perspectives this year covering BPMs/Advanced Customizations but I have heard that those sessions are so short that you really can't get into too much detail.

Have you been to a Perspectives class that you could compare this to? Do you think a class like this is a better use of the training budget?

Thanks,
