We have been using the FRx package and export function to do all of our
financial statements - we have been live on G/L and FRx since April 2004
The FRx table on the sql server is currently 4.5 gig - detail ledger
information is exported into FRx - we do 2 year comparisons and have 3
year of transaction detail exported in to FRx.
Right now the detail table (biggest one) has 15 million transactions - I
don't know when the last time we did cleanup/maintenance on the SQL
table.
There are about 15 tables - most of the tables are very small - period -
account # info - Balance summary etc
So you can drill down to the transaction level detail if that is how you
have you report defined.
Speed is relative - I believe our reporting package is processed in
10-25 minutes - number of account - year comparison - server specs
play a big factor in whether it take 5 minutes or 35 minutes.
We have yet to add addition values to the system - lbs, hrs, head count
....
No corners have been cut in the info exported - even unposted Journals
are imported and can be included or excluded
Our biggest problem was with the number of transactions we were
exporting the complete dump and reload method in the standard vantage
interface was taking way too long...
So we rewrote the interface with the ability to reload a single or range
of periods. As the number of month went by the time it took to
interface, kept going up.
At first it was 15 minutes - a year and a half later 2-4 hours - as the
transactions increased. Now with our interface a period takes 10
minutes to load.

Subject: [Vantage] Some more FRx Questions
We are very close to finalizing what we need to order or what we can
hope to accomplish with FRx. Thanks to all who have offered previous
advice. One gem....we can buy SQl Server Std. Ed. on our own.
Now we have a few more questions:
1. How extensive is the detail info for transactions you can drill down
to? In the SQL database that gets populated from the Vantage data how
mocu detail about transactions is brought over? If we have an AP type
transaction for an expense will it be able to show a manager the vendor
name, or just vendor number or neither? When I look at the transaction
files that link to the GL and the financial info it appears like it all
really has to port to the SQL database in order to be usable. Did they
cut corners or is there enough useful info there to work with?
2. Speed....is it reasonably quick to generate reports?
3. Database size.....what is the ratio of SQL Server DB size to your
Vantage DB size? I'm thinking these are probably somewhat porportional
so I could maybe get a rough idea of disk space requirements.
4. Have you incorporated non-financial data into reports by feeding
numbers from Excel spreadsheets cells? We need labor hours on some
reports as well as job booking dollars (NOT order bookings) that we
maintain in spreadsheets. Could we have the people responsible for
maintainihng these numbers opem a repository spreadsheet that the FRx
reports refer to and populate a cell or two each day?
Thanks very much for any info on these questions.
