Spaces in Bar Code

Please visit http://www.elfring.com/bar39.htm for the standards.
Bar Code 3/9 is limited. Bar Code 128 is more versatile, allows the full
ASCII 128 character set to be encoded and it's more condensed than code 39.
If you have a 20 character long word or P/N Bar Code 39 comes out too wide
where code 128 is about 60% of the code 39 width. There is a catch though,
for code 128 the software needs to do "Check Digit Calculation". Please
visit http://www.barcodeman.com/info/c128.php3 for details.
My guess is, if we get the code 128 font and program Crystal Report formula
to calculate the "Check Digit Calculation" we will get the full
functionality instead of low end bar code system. I think Epicor didn't want
to mess with more difficult task of providing Code 128 to it's customers.

Fellow Vantagerians,
I have a customer who has a part number
(587652 M-105 Strip). When I barcode this value, I
get spaces in the barcode which cannot be scanned.
Can anyone tell me how to parse and reassemble this
value so it can be scanned.
As always, thanks for your help.
Use this instead : 587652-M-105-Strip

Rick,
I thought of that, but this customer
want to input this information off of the
packing slip and must match their part
number.
It sounds like there is not a barcoded
character that represents a filler for a
space.

The %20 is the html way of rendering a space in a file name or path without needing the quotes. Crystal Web Component uses that in long link paths for reports that are viewed in a browser when the path has spaces in it. So the file: "c:\Documents & Settings\My Report.rpt" would be shown as: c:\Documents%20&%20Settings\My%20Report.rpt

It's interesting that it may have other uses as well.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, however, another customer of ours
(Bombardier) just got back to us and the %20 DOESN'T work either. There is
a software program that can be purchased that will create the spaces. They
are working on having it provided to us. When I find the name of the
software I will provide it to the group.

We use BarTender (Seagull Scientific) to create employee IDs. We insert a
barcode that clocks in, one that clocks out and one that brings up selected
employee in data collection.
the barcode text looks something like this.
---------------------------
s1111'

dd
---------------------------
causing the selection(s), employee ID1111', enter three times to go through
following screens punching in employee on default shift, and then deselect
employee (dd) second "d" is just extra.
Anyway, we had to use (ctrl + M) to get an enter character and I just tried
to place a space in it and it works fine.
I am not sure how that will relate to vantage bar-coding, but using a
"barcode" software, instead of a barcode font as vantage does, will produce
the space.
Don't know what help if any this was, but I though I would offer.
Good luck,

I created this formula in crystal barcode39((chr(65) + chr(32) + chr(66)))
it returns A B with a space between the A and the B. When I change the font
and output the barcode it breaks the display into 2 separate strings with a
space in between. I then opened notepad and scan the string back in it
omitted the space. I am not sure if it's a configuration setting on the
scanner or something else. Just thought I would throw it out for what it's
worth.

Brian,
You can look up Vantage Support Document 259.68 and 259.649.
There is quite a bit of usefull information here.
Also here is a Keyboard Equivalent Chart that I compiled from those
documents

represented by a comma. For example to create a bar code for "ABC 123" you
would
use "*ABC,123*"

Some scanners require that 'Full ASCII Code 39 Decoding" be explicitly
turned on. If not it may not scan and interpret the codes properly. If it
is required to be activated then the manual should have a scan code to turn
this function on. Most scanners that do Full ASCII have decoding on by
default but if the customer's scanners do not you may need to advise them
about this. The problem might be at their end.
