**SPAM** RE: 6.0 DB Tuning Opinion Needed

Ours is currently over 12 GB. When we did a test conversion to version 6 it
actually shrunk down to 8 GB. I think we add about 1-2 GB a year (maybe
more).

Hi Cliff,

We are on 6.0 and the db grows at about 2 mb/day with intermittent jumps
of 10mb.

The monthly change is approx 60 mb.

Thanks,

John Mansfield

Todd

Hope you have plenty of space on your server. My 4.0 database grew
100
MB in a year. I upgraded to 6.0 last August and it is growing at the
rate of
100 MB a month !! Converted at 2.4 GB - I'm now at 3.7 GB. Are others
experienceing the same growth ??

Since moving to 6.0 we are experiencing a LOT of slowness. Very long
startups (despite anti-virus exclusions) and Reports taking double the
normal time to run.

A while back Ben Nixon from Epicor had made some DB tweaks while here to
install Corvu / VBI. These are in the old Vantage database and probably
not
in the new MfgSys database. For sure not in the new one because it was
installed with a limit of 32 users which caused some grief yesterday
when
1/3 of the users could not log in. Being the same basic database and
still
Progress 9.1d I should be able to copy all the settings from the old DB
to
the new one - right? Then probably have to shut the DB down and restart
for
them to take effect, also right?

Any other tips for making 6.0 not run so much slower than 5.20 was?

Thanks,

We are having similar problems.

We are on version 6.0 and the production detail report is very slow.

Logins from my lan clients are very slow.

Our database size is just over 1 gig.

We have recently added 3 users and 3 data collection licenses.

Thanks for the help.

Vantage 6.x introduced several hundred tables into the schema and as a
result vastly increased the size of the meta data. Since Progress loads the

unavoidable.

normal time to run.

A while back Ben Nixon from Epicor had made some DB tweaks while here to
install Corvu / VBI. These are in the old Vantage database and probably not
in the new MfgSys database. For sure not in the new one because it was
installed with a limit of 32 users which caused some grief yesterday when
1/3 of the users could not log in. Being the same basic database and still
Progress 9.1d I should be able to copy all the settings from the old DB to
the new one - right? Then probably have to shut the DB down and restart for
them to take effect, also right?

Any other tips for making 6.0 not run so much slower than 5.20 was?

Thanks,
Todd Caughey

I had 1 database and 4 companies in 4.0 with a 450 MB database. Moved to
5.1, split one company to a separate database. Now in 6.1, 1 database is
1.2GB and the other one is 1.6GB. Fortunately, 6.0 and up do not have the
2.0 GB limit.
