SQL Database conversion to Unicode

thanks Ned,
yes, i'm aware of all the changes required on the dB and the separate code set for the applications.
the dump and reload in SQL can become very complicated with the number of indexes, triggers, constraints and identity seeds on each table. in testing the process i used some of the existing code i can find from Epicor (create a new dB and Schema change) - the time to create the script for 1 table can be 10-15 minutes and we have 600-800 tables with content, so it is a very time consuming effort. I was hoping to hear if anyone went through this experience and had any words of wisdom

thanks

hi to all
we are in the process of expanding our operations and with that need to move to a Unicode SQL dB.
Has anyone gone through this process and can give me a hint on how you did this?
it seems like a very long process as every tables has many indexes, some triggers and constrains and all have the Progress_RECID and identity column that need to match
any help will be welcome

thanks
motty
What version are you currently running on?

ha,
my production is 905.604 and I'm planning to upgrade into 905.700a
that gives me 2 options, to upgrade the SQL Unicode at the 604 level, then run dB conversions and schema changes, or do it at the 700 level
does that make sense?

thanks
motty

I would double-check with Epicor, but there is a chance you may need to do a
dump and load process to change from one to the other, or they may have a
script that will do it for you.

I know many of the fields change from varchar to nvarchar and text to ntext
and so on and so forth.

I believe you also need to do a completely new installation of Epicor as
well since there are code changes.

ha,
my production is 905.604 and I'm planning to upgrade into 905.700a that
gives me 2 options, to upgrade the SQL Unicode at the 604 level, then run dB
conversions and schema changes, or do it at the 700 level does that make
sense?
