SQL Replication to a report database

Sandra,

Actually, I simply used the wizards in SQL Server to do it. Read up on the Help associated with it as Microsoft's 'Help' is often more confusing than helpful. If I recall, I found some good stuff on the 'net to clarify some of my questions. The wizard will create all the jobs on both servers and do all the work for you.

Create a publisher (and what it publishes) on your E9 SQL server, and a subscriber (and what it subscribes to) on the reporting server. In our case, this was our EPM server. I think you need to create the shared directory (that the snapshots will be created in and read from) before any of that so when you are going through the setup the directory already exists. The first run through takes forever as it's essentially a full backup, copy and restore, but then the following ones are quite quick.

We also created a support database where we store views and functions used to 'look inside' our E9 db, and I setup transactional replication for that one over to our EPM server - really that was overkill since there are no real transactions to speak of, but I wanted to learn.

if you want more specifics, email me - mike@...

We want to replicate Epicor 905 data to a second sql server for reporting.  Since I can’t use sql’s replication, what tool would you recommend?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Greg

Depending on database size and acceptable time delay… I have set up a couple companies with a scheduled backup, move, and restore of the SQL database to another server for reporting purposes.

I have seen your post of that script and in fact use parts of it when I am moving Live to Pilot, but am wanting more close to real time with this.

Greg,

I'm not sure why you say you cannot run SQL's replication? I have to assume you mean transactional replication - which you are correct - will not work, or some other issues/Progress/etc...

We run a combination of transactional for a support database (where we have a lot of queries waiting on E10) and Snapshot for our 9.05.606 databases over to our EPM server (SQL2008 on both sides). I run a few lesser companies every hour and our main one two times a day - once at lunch and once in the evening.

I can help with some answers if you want to explore it.

Mike

I was trying to setup transactional replication and got stopped. I am researching other 3rd party options and wondering if anyone has experience with some that can be almost realtime.

I am running sql 2008 64bit and am looking to replicate to sql 2012.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike,

Would you mind giving some input about how you are running SQL snapshot replication for EPM? I am trying to find a way to replicate our live db for EPM too without using Epicor Replication which has proven to be very faulty in the past.

Thank you,

Sandra

Thanks for any suggestions.
