Re the Real Time part, it is subject to the schedule on the Log Reader process so it can be almost real time but it is not real time.....
Also it works well for reporting

Joe,
You can choose which tables you want to replicate based on profiles,
There is a default profile for things like Enterprise Search and AFR you can add to and or change these as required.
You can also replicate the whole database for reports / read only copy.
As a high level overview the process works by utilising replication triggers on the Database then based on the profile changes to the data get stored in the replication tables a log reader process the pushes these out to a sonic message queue.
On the other side the replication server subscribes to the topic on the sonic message queue pulls down the records and applies them to the target database, you can implement filtering also here as required.
It works quite well and is real time but it still has a few minor issues in some cases, you can search for the current issues on the SCR's list.
Check out the help it explains the process quite well.
Regards,
Stephen

Subject: [Vantage] SQL Replication
Hi All,
I know that there is an option to replicate OpenEdge to MS SQL Server.
I believe a few of the Epicor solution rely on the replication.
We actually have one of these solutions, Enterprise Search.
We haven't rolled out Enterprise Search yet but I was wondering if
someone could share their experience with replication.
Specifically, I was wondering if you are limited to what tables can be
replicated or can you chose to replicate all of the Epicor database?
Also, is it real-time replication or is it scheduled?
We will have some reporting needs that I just can't picture doing with
OpenEdge and if I can replicate to SQL server, it would take care of my
concerns.
Thanks
