SQL2012 for 701

It goes way beyond compiling. Since Progress interprets code
dynamically, you'll need to replace that functionality with .Net code.
Every single BAQ is a Progress statement and every single BAQ would
have to be rewritten in SQL. Not impossible but it would take some
work. All On Leave events in the Product Configurator are Progress
code and that would have to be rewritten in .Net. The whole form
management system in the Product Configurator would have to be
rewritten. Every BPM that calls Progress would have to be rewritten in
.Net languages. The entire SDK is built on Progress.

Now if people are just talking about removing the Progress data store,
then that may be possible but to remove Progress entirely would
require much, much more work - essentially a complete rewrite.

When did you hear that Ned? I called into support last Monday and was told SQL2012 is NOT approved.

Not that I am in a hurry but any time table for .701 release? Anyone using SQL 2012 in another application? Did you see the performance gains advertised?

?? 701 has been out for a few weeks.... In case you didn't know and I am understanding your question correctly, I highly recommend logging into EpicWeb and setting up sharepoint alerts on the Epicor 905 downloads folder. You are then notified anytime a file changes in there. Works nicely since Epicor doesn't announce releases or anything that I know of.

We are in the process of implementing 701 as we speak. The managers are all testing on the dev server which has been upgraded. Some bugs, it's been rather stable thus far.

We are upgrading from 606

Speaking of SQL, I'm informed that Epicor 10 will *only* offer the MSSQL
platform and buh-bye to Progress. Halleluiah.

What about those Linux/Progress users?! Epicor 10 eh? I can barely wrap my head around 9.05 much less think what 10 might be like.

No more Progress? That's great! I can now look forward to rebooting my
SQL servers daily to fix MS related performance issues! Now THAT...is
progress.

?? 701 has been out for a few weeks.... In case you didn't know and I am

Hey, if politics can be polarized, so can database platforms, right?
Progress has treated us VERY well for 17 years...rock solid...and almost
no maintenance required. I can't say the same for any MS product. I'm
sure MS is making SQL better, but I for one will be sad if they
eliminate the Progress option.

?? 701 has been out for a few weeks.... In case you didn't know and I am
understanding your question correctly, I highly recommend logging into
EpicWeb and setting up sharepoint alerts on the Epicor 905 downloads
folder.
You are then notified anytime a file changes in there. Works nicely
since
Epicor doesn't announce releases or anything that I know of.

Progress aside,

If this happens it will allow one technology across the whole platform
which will make most of our lives easier eventually! My guess is that IF
this is happening Epicor will make sure to give us an upgrade path which
would allow us to uplift our code mostly automatically. Otherwise we'll
simply re-implement everything no problem right? LoL

Allegedly, yes. We'll see. I'm sure I'll still be happily on 8.03 by then.

They don't have to change anything. They will probably just stop
compiling the
application for the native Progress database. Right now, Epicor needs to
compile
every program 6 times. One Progress, one SQL non-unicode, one SQL unicode,
times two for 32-bit and 64-bit. The only difference being the schema CRC's.

If they could dump Progress, non-unicode and 32-bit they might reduce from
six versions to one.

They might keep the Progress version for themselves, so they can keep
demoing
the application with a Progress database, like they do now, for speed.
