Start,Finish,Lunch sirens

Here is a web site mentioned previously in this group.

http://www.sinnercomputing.com/

The program is called Gigalarm

The program can play, at your specified time, a wave file, or launch a program, etc.
It can be set to do these tasks repeatedly, or just once with or without your intervention.

All you need is a PC with a sound card tied into the shop PA system.
Of course you could just put the sound card into the Vantage Server. (To keep alarms accurate)

The developer of this program would like you to send him the earth shattering sum of $5 US or $10 Australian in cash.

Everytime he updates the program he sends you a new copy via email it is about 37k zipped.
It according to his help file, Gigalarm usually uses about 200K of RAM when memory resident.

We have tested the program here, and like it.
The accounting staff likes it for those "remember to pay X on this day" notices it can generate.

I just can't convince the boss to hook it up to the PA.

If you need an appropriate alarm sound just go to Yahoo and type in Foghorn.wav
Just be careful you don't load the cartoon character's voice or you will never live it down.

You can put a sound card in your server, run a feed cable to your intercom,
and use the AT command to run your tones.

I'm having a problem running sirens for the workshop for the start and
finish of work and lunch. At the moment I'm using an old time clock system
with 3 independent controllers witch have there own clocks. When the whole
system goes out of sync I can have the server (Vantage time) and the 3
sirens all going off at different times.
What I think I need is some sort of controller that runs of the server
time
(connected to the server) that is programmable with the times I want the
sirens to go off. ANy tips?????

I use a sound card, in our Vantage server, attached to our paging system as
"music input" (because we do not play music over the speakers) and at the
appropriate times (using Task Scheduler and a very simple wave file player)
play a suitable tone for 3 seconds. This has worked great for a year or so
and no more complaints about Vantage time differing from the "shop bell".
Only hitch has been if a page announcement is made exactly at the same time
as the shop bell is supposed to sound the voice page takes priority over the
"music" channel. But this has been very rare. I was also using an Internet
time sych program called Atomic Clock but it had a bug that affected the day
of week (Mondays showed as Sunday) so I now manually set the server time
(which drifts) once a week to the official US time source web site. If you
would like more details feel free to email off-list.

We bought a small relay board that is controlled by the serial port and
hooked it to our existing buzzer. Then, we just activate the relay control
program using an AT command.
