Steel Detailing

Thansk for all your comments and direction. We use StuCad and from what my designers say constantly to me is that this is not the regular CAD program or better yet it is not CAD because the file format is totally different. I have actually looked at Service COnnect but it is an expensive venture and time consuming to undet take at present seeing that we are only one year into Vantage. I will see if we get an export file from the CAD and import it into Vantage.

Thanks.

Hello Everyone,

I am new to the group. I work at a steel Building fabricating company where all of our end products are unique. Is there anyone in this group that work in a similar business? It seems that Vantage is fantastic for making standard part and most business use this functionality effectively.

I will look out for a response.

Paul,

Are you looking for people specifically in your industry, or anyone who
manufactures to order?

And what are you looking for?

Good day Paul,

We are a 95 percent ETO steel fabricator and the other 5 percent stock.

We have about 35 percent of our Vantage parts as stock, the rest are
non-stock.

No two projects are ever the same, although they may contain several
like parts.

I agree with your statement about standard parts, but would also add
that Vantage works fantastic for all of our ETO projects as well.

We rely heavily on the product configurator for this, which is always
under development.

But what we have completed allows for us to engineer anything that comes
our way...

Personal opinion is that you will be more than happy with Vantage's
capabilities.

There are a quite few make-to-order, configure-to-order Vantage/Vista/Epicor customers. What kinds of issues are you running in to?

Well, I am looking for people specifically in my industry, those who are involve in the fabrication of steel buildings. I am looking at the way they integrate their processes such as Detailing whether via CAD into Vantage.

What industry are you in? Do you make standard, all non standard parts?

We use AutoCAD LT and Solidworks. But we usually do it backwards, build
the BOM then make a drawing. Don't ask me why, not the engineer here.

Guys, anyone figured out how to import from CAD into Vantage? Is there

We are in the final testing stage of an import of BOM from SolidWorks to
Vantage. We purchased Service Connect and after trying to learn it on
my own for a couple months we decided to pay to have one of the Epicor
SC gurus do it for us instead. Not a cheap module or project but the
time savings is huge. Service Connect is a very powerful module and I
know there are some pros on this board but after we lost a key employee
we just needed to get it done as quick as possible.

There are plenty of people on this list that use some type of CAD
program.

Guys, anyone figured out how to import from CAD into Vantage? Is there
a module you would have to buy?

Manasa,

Yes, we are definately looking at importing the BOMs into Vantage from
CAD. I actually got into contact with customer group service and they
have a utility that export and import MOM. How do you do this currently?

If you have the Engineering Workbench.

Create parent Part number in Part Entry. Create a revision in Part Entry.

Check the Part/rev out into the Engineering Workbench

Actions à Revision à Get Detail à Get from Import

This reads a "CSV" file formatted Component Part Number, Component Part Description, M(fg) or P(urchased), Quantity needed.

Online help has better documentation

If the component part is not in Vantage it will create it.

Most software products will export to CSV

I have used this feature in 8, 8.03 and Epicor 9.

Hope this helps.

We don't at the moment. We use an excel template and then do a paste
insert from there. Do you know if you can import from your CAD program
into excel?

We use AutoCAD LT and Solidworks. But we usually do it backwards, build
the BOM then make a drawing. Don't ask me why, not the engineer here.

There are plenty of people on this list that use some type of CAD
program.
