Strange Thing Selecting a Job

Speaking of strange things why when you first load vantage does it say "TREE
TOP" above the menu list. I guess I will have to rewrite all of my work
instructions to first say, "Go under the Tree Top", "Then select Job
Management", etc...

This actually not a "bug". Progress/Vantage allows you to enter filters
into the selection criteria boxes. However, because of the way
Progress/Vantage handles this quasi query against the database it takes a
very long time. What you are seeing is Progress filling in the lookup table
for the screen adding one record at a time to the list.

This "function" has been around since at least version 2.0. You can use it
to enter lookup masks like ME* to bring up everything that begins with an
ME. However, because it takes so long, it isn't very useful.

The only way to stop it I have found is to kill it like you did.

A user here was selecting a job for a job traveler and her finger slipped
off of the numeric keypad Enter key and hit the period/decimal point key.
Not seeing this she pressed enter and selection portion of the screen went
totally crazy and started scrolling through all the jobs in the system. over
and over and........endless loop.. The only way to stop it was to
Ctrl-Alt-Del and end task on Progress. We tried it again and it is
repeatable. Looks like a bug to me but before I check with Tech Support I
wanted to see if this was really an some sort of feature I have not learned
yet. Has anyone else seen this or know any significance to entering a
period in a selection field? Is there a kinder and gentler way to stop it
than ending the task?

Works for me. Ending the task was the only way to get it stop.

Wow, that's neat. Mine does it too (3.00.632) I checked, and it only
affects the client machine. There appears to be no excessive load on the
server. Probably a logic bug in their browse thingy...
