Subcontract Blank Title 58170

Not actually sure what a "buyout" item is (have some guesses though) but we use subcontract all the time for any WIP items from our plant that go outside for work and are then returned to our plant for more work (or another subcontract operation elsewhere). The subcontract packing slip process allows us to communicate things to the outside process company that are specific to that operation and then, when the parts are returned, process them via a normal material receipts process with inspection (as needed) and receipt into internal WIP inventory. The lack of receipt on an outstanding subcontract PO allows a pretty good view of what material is currently "outside" and when it is due back.

Buy outside, I assume, is more like having a subcontractor initiate the part from the raw material procurement and deliver a partially produced or finished sub-component part that is then used in an operation at your facility. I would treat this as any other material purchase.

Subject: [Vantage] Subcontract

Does anyone have any thought as to when a Subcontract Operation should
be used. And what the Difference is between A Buyout Item and
Subcontract.

Thanks - les
