Subcontract Cost

Paul,

Were there any units in stock when the mfg receipt was done? If so,
what was the subcontract cost on those units? Average cost is exactly
that -- an average of all the costs -- example: 4 in stock with a unit
subcontract cost of $5 each = $20. I am putting in 2 units with a
subcontract cost of $8 each = $16. $20 + $16 = $36. $36 divided by the
6 units = a unit subcontract cost of $6. If you are moving your parts
quickly enough you won't have an onhand quantity and you will get the
correct cost from the job.

Also, look at the transaction for the manufactured receipt. You can
override the unit cost -- maybe someone did that.

Question

A part is subcontracted at a cost of $212.00 ea. Total run 10
pc for an extended price of $2,120. Now I want to use receipts from
manufactured to pull 1pcs into stock. When I go to receipts from
manufacturing and type in one and vantage rolls up the cost, actual
unit cost, for one piece the subcontract price is not the same price
as the PO, and if I increase the amount returned to stock the
subcontract price decreased. I would think that if the PO set a price
at $212.0 that any units returned would have a subcontract cost @
$212.00. Anybody know why this is happening?

Paul
It is based on the total subcontract cost on the job divided by the quantity
completed. If you have a quantity completed larger than the po qty then the
subcontract cost will be less. In other words, the price each on the PO is
never looked at.

If the actual is different Vantage posts the adjustment to the job -- PUR-ADJ - so if the qties are correct as far as how many are completed - then it should post that actual cost

Thanks for the offer, maybe we can accomplish this through the listserv. My
production detail report shows the correct subcontract price: 4 units @
241.50 total price 966.00. When I go to receipts from MFG and process 2
pieces to stock the following subcontract cost is shown: 115.09. This is
where I get off track. Is this because vantage is using average? Why is it
not using the cost from the PO which is the actual cost for us to
subcontract?

Ok - hope they can help - just hard to visualize.. I like to see the production detail report to see what actually happened

I guess if you could fax a copy of your production detail report I might
be able to figure it out --- 317/392-5006

I still am in a bit of a fog right now. I am receiving subcontract
material
off the job and into inventory. But, my subcontract price is not the same
as
the PO, please see below. I have had two explanations but still I am just
not getting it. Can someone explain how vantage moves subcontract cost to
inventory? We are using average costing. Thanks again.

Paul
