Subcontract Shipment Entry - Can the Job Requirement Be Made Optional?

Hello,

Is there a way to remove or bypass the mandatory Job Number in Subcontract Shipment Entry?

We have PO lines where one line has a job and another does not. When trying to add the non-Job line, the system gives a “Job is required” error. I haven’t found any setting or customization to make the Job field optional.

Has anyone found a workaround that allows adding PO lines without a job?

Thanks!

If you can give a bit more detail around the scenario and the result you are trying to achieve, someone might be able to make some suggestions.
Subcontract work generally involves doing something to a part to achieve a different end product, so would generally be linked to a job with a subcon operation.

Unfortunately, this isn’t possible as far as I’ve found. Its pretty limiting considering the PO allows a mixed bag, but the Subcontract Shipment does NOT. A subcontract shipment line MUST be tied to a job.

Here’s a thread I had about this awhile back:

Not exactly sure why you would do a subcontract shipment when trying to ship a non-job-related item.

Just guessing on your scenario here, but you could use Miscellaneous Shipment Entry. Those do not require being tied to a job. There isn’t an inventory or financial transfer with them, so run through in test before making a decision on which way to proceed based on your business needs.

Thank you!

Never heard the scenario from @ravishah. If it’s not for production and product is not coming back, Misc. Shipment is perfect. If we’re just trying to avoid putting in jobs because it’s too much effort, …

Or its like the scenario from my post where we did have job requirements, but also had non-job requirements (internal parts for our equipment) going to the same vendor for the same service… but Epicor forces us to print two packing slips for the same shipment.

Obviously you can print a misc. shipment for the non-job part(s)… but now I have to create two slips for one shipment. Seems unnecessary. But… those are the tools we have.

Maybe then need an idea to mix shipment types on Master Pack shipments?
Could be a terrible idea, I don’t know. Just a thought, no quality control applied
