Does it tell you it can not connect to the site? I get this all the time on my PC from ANY site for .exe files. All other types work OK. Other PCs here download .exe files OK. This has been an ongoing problem for a long time and is very aggrevating. I have searched high and low (and even posted here) and have found no solution. It is not a security setting in IE (tried turning all security off and opening everything wide) and I have upgraded and patched to the latest levels of Win2K and IE. I am very tempted to try another browser to see if that would work (and me a smoking gun for IE being the cause). My latest hunch is some obscure registry setting and/or some setting in Symantec AV not allowing .exe downloads.

Todd,
you are not alone. I have had the same issue, but at home. Have to use
another computer or browser for .exe. If I remember, the other browser does
work just fine.

FWIW...other things I have eliminated...
- Plugins in IE associated with .exe
- File extension settings in registry for .exe
- Extensions key settings in registry

Funny thing...once in a blue moon I CAN download a .exe. So I am wondering if it is a combo of some security setting AND the site being contacted. I see it work more often from https sites than plain http. I just had one work from Symantec's download site and it was an https type.
