Supported Bar Code Scanners for V8

We have a couple of touchscreen tablets (http://www.dtresearch.com/product/dt310/index.htm) that have integrated Intermec scan engines on them. They really work very well and since they are tablet computers, the screens are big enough to run full vantage via an RDP session (no handheld module required) yet small and light enough to be mobile.

Other than that we've used a few Symbol LS-2208 and Symbol LS-3578 scanners without issue.

We use Intermec CK31s through Terminal Services, and bought AMM with additional licenses for the handhelds. We set it all up ourselves, and after a few initial hiccups, have had no problems. The CK31 was the Epicor recommended product when we bought Vantage, I understand now they like the Symbols.

We use Intermec CN3 units for our hand held barcode units. We like these as the 2D barcode scanner is better by far than the symbol one on similar kind of device. They were recommended by Epicor at the time.

For our fixed terminals we use Hand Held Products 4600G barcode imagers (1d and 2d) - again, they are superb and not overly expensive.

Whichever you go for, Intermec and Symbol(Motorola) both offer a 3yr warranty for any accidental damage etc. It seems a lot to outlay at the beginning, but you only need a couple of dropped units and it has paid for itself (plus our reseller advised "off the record" that if you 'accidentally' run over them with a fork lift 2.5yrs into the 3yr warranty you can get some nice new units FOC).

Whatever you do, make sure you check the barcode reader with your barcodes and future barcodes as you will find a massive difference in scanncer quality. The Intermec is much more precise and reads the barcodes very well.
