We have a WinNT 4.0 (SP6a) server set up just for
Vantage
(4.00.901). The only other programs running on this
server are the
tape backup client (the tape drive is in our Novell
server), the UPS
software, and Novell's NDS4NT.
Same as us only our server is also PDC and has tape
drive in the unit using Arcserve 6.6 (now unsupported)
In an effort to 'fine tune' this setup, I'm addressing
a couple of
concerns:
1) When the users log into and out of Vantage, this
makes an
entry in the Application Log on the server. Since
management
doesn't want to pay for any more seats in Vantage than
they have
to, our policy here is to log out of Vantage when
you're not using it.
This is resulting in *many* entrys in the Application
Log, to the
point that the log fills up in less than a week. Do
other people have
this problem? Any suggestions on addressing this?
Have you checked the "Log Settings..."? We have ours
set to "Overwrite Events as Needed"
2) Probably like most of you, we have Vantage set up
to launch
automatically when the server boots up (whether
someone logs into
the console or not). For some reason, when the system
comes up,
I'm seeing 7 entries of _mprosrv.exe in the Task
Manager, and 6
entries of _mproshut.exe. Does anyone else find this
on their
systems?
3) We have a training database set up, using a copy of
our live
database. We use the Progress online backup & restore
utility to
copy the database over. After the server has been up
and running
for about a month, I can not run the restore utility.
The system has
run out of resources, and I need to re-boot the server
to free them
up. This may be related to item #2 above, but I'm not
sure. Does
anyone else have this problem?
We have not run into this. I usually restore training
during slow times but even during the day we have not
run out of resoureces.
We have dual 350 PIII's and 348 MegO'Ram
