I'd thought I'd share my experiences with Vantage(8.03.408) and Terminal
services 2008.

I have configured Vantage to use Remote App, this is a new feature in
Windows Server 2008 you might wanna google that, anyway it is been
fantastic. It makes an application look "seamless" to the desktop, just
like any other locally installed app. No more "second desktop" to "log
into." When a user clicks on a RDP icon they get a network login box to
reenter their network username and password, a slight delay and them the
user is presented with the Epicor Vantage login box...Again, no second
desktop.

Some caveats:
Make sure you have workstations running XP Pro SP 3, or RDP 6.1 if
running with less than XP SP 3. Windows Vista SP1 or Windows 7 works w/o
additional requirements.

Another big area is printing, there is a new feature in WS 2008 TS
called easyprint. You MUST be running .Net 3.0 sp1 or newer on the
client PC to use easyprint. Basically easy print redirects any local Pc
printer(s) so you can us it in your TS session.(Suggest using .Netframe
3.5 out now)

Vantage over the web:

We have also configured our Windows 2008 TS to allow users outside our
internal network, using an SSL certificate, to use Vantage over the
web...no VPN required. This works great for salesmen who using wireless
at hotels that don't support VPN. This delivery method also reduces the
technical complexity for sales dudes who may technically challenged. ;)
Please note it does take about 45 seconds to start Vantage initially
but once you are logged in, it is as fast as your network
connection...as fast as the full desktop client on the same LAN as the
server..which technically it is for us. ;)

Manfiest Shipping:

We also have Manifest, the 3rd party shipping package, working under TS
Remote app. Anyone who has used Manifest in a remote/WAN environment
knows are slow it is to load and run. This has been a sticking point
from day 1 with Manifest.

If you are setup as a hub and spoke type network you have to take a
serious look at Windows 2008 TS.

I have WS 2008 running on a dual-quad core with 16 gig of memory. With
15 active Vantage sessions and utilization is at 2 % and memory usage is
just under 3 gig.

Finally, the biggest benefit of using TS when you have updates to
Vantage..hands down a no brainer for small IT shops like we are. I am
using this client only at my remote sites now forward.
