Test Epicor on Premise

Hi all,
We are currently in the cloud and we want to to test Epicor in on-premise because of some performances issues.

Epicor will provide us a copy of our production database, and we have some licenses for on-premise.

I have some question :
1 - Will our BPM and customization included in the database provided by epicor ?
2- is there any thing else we should ask about ?
3- what are the challenges ?

Thank you

Have they given you documents on the process at all?

I would get the 2023.2 install guide, the Hardware sizing guide, 2023.2 System Administration Guide from EpicWeb.

All of your bpms, customization, baqs and dashboards are in the database, but all of them will need to recompiled after restoring.

Are you using an existing SQL server or making a test one for this process? You can do a server and SQL for 180 days without a license.

If you are going for best performance you will want to make separate app servers for clients and background tasks and three task agents to process tasks.

If you do not want to go that far you can run SQL and the IIS app server on one server and it will run fine.

I would build the servers and do the install and get the training data running, so you know you have a working set of servers including SSRS before you try with your database.

The first one is understanding “some performance issues.”

Performance of

  • Smart Client? Browser? Number of Clients? Remote Locations?
  • Processes like MRP? Cost Rollup?
  • Printing?
  • Networking?

Once you enumerate whatever performance issues you are having, what do the conditions of the test look like? How will you know which performs better, and under what conditions?

it is for test, what do you mean by 180 days without license please ?

By default MS products will run for 180 without any extensions. You can google for the details.

If you are going with SQL 2022 you can I believe you can install the Developer Edition that does not time out after 180 days.
For server 2022 (or 2019) you can use the rearm command to extend the license (5) more time @ 180 days each.
From an elevated command prompt run below (Make sure to have an internet connection before running)

slmgr.vbs /rearm
