Testbed Server Questions

This was my check list/notes. Some of it is dated now. It is just a
supplement to Epicor's installation instructions.

Hope it helps.

Subject: [Vantage] Testbed Server Questions

I have finally got NT 4.0 installed on a server which will be a testbed for
converting from Vantage 4.0 to 5.x and then allowing users to preview the
changes before we try to go live (and me to start converting RB and
Crystal). I have a couple questions because I did not do the original
Vantage install so have not done this process before.

1. Are there instructions around somewhere for this? I could not find
anything useful in the readme.wri on the V4.00 CD. I might need to call
support I suppose.

2. Do I install Progress first or Vantage first?

3. I have some patch files I have applied to our current live version. Can
I install Vantage then just the lat4est patch for our current live system
and be able to use a restore of that DB as a test DB on the new server?

4. Any other notable "gotchas" in a 4.0 install that I need to watch our
for?

Once I get a duplicate of our current situation running my next steps will
be to convert to 5.1, for which there are plenty of previous groups messages
to guide (or confuse) me.

Thanks,

Hi Todd,
#1. I Don't have that doc anymore.
#2. You install Progress first, then Vantage.
#3. The easiest way is to restore a backup to your new directory location. Then just apply the latest patch. You can do these two steps in reverse order as well.
#4. Might be a good time for a Dump & Load as well... before the conversion.
