Thinking Out of the Box

Wow my thinking out of the box 6 months ago is going to actually happen. I
hope it's not be careful of what you ask for you might get it.

Sounded this week like Vantage 6.0 will change a lot of this anyway with
ability to put VB Form and User fields straight on the forms (and modify the
forms in many other ways too). Should probably do away with need to have a
seperate VB Form. And it sure sounded like Global Alerts is going to be
replaced as well.

I agree with Brian. We use all the user fields as well as VB forms and
would not like this functionality removed. Enhancing the VB forms and
increasing the number of fields per form instead of the limited 20 fields
per form would be a big help also.

My company would not like to see the User fields removed. As nice as
it is to have the option of a VB Form, it does require extra mouse
clicks or keystrokes to enter and exit a VB Form, as opposed to the
user fields which are often right on the screen pertaining to them.
We use user fields when available and VB forms as a secondary option.

I read an article today about SAP's R/3 software where they state 50% of the
features are unused and could be dropped, and nobody would notice. Do we
have any outdated features in Vantage?

How about consolidating USER FIELDS and VBFORM's?
Is anyone using LAST costing with LOT costing now a feature?
Do we need to CREATE MEMO's with global alerts now that we have Change Log
Files?

Patrick Winter
They give you a box? I am confined to a cage. What your suggesting might
impact some users that are using these fields for some custom process in
their organization. My thoughts are why remove functionality if it's not
impacting performance? Be careful what you wish for Epicor might be
listening.

The only issue is that for those people that have used those features, then
there is a data loss for those users that use it. Imagine using a feature
for years, and putting in data, then having it taken away. Do you add up
your cost of entering the data over theyears, along with, the data loss
itself. Therein lies the quandery, if you can only add features enventually
your application becomes so feature heavy that it colapses under its own
weight. Then there is the issue of merging mixed data types, merging user
fields and VBforms would be great though.

I agree with you. Not only move the fields but also add more functions to
the VB Forms.

Patrick,

We would get serious customer input before removing any functionality from
the software. Taking away functionality is a BAD idea.

For example, in 5.2 the Track Changes functionality added to Sales Orders &
PO's that automatically log changes to the records to many tables in 5.2
including job and quote related tables.

We left the old way in too, the pop-up comment box, in case anyone preferred
it and was using it.
In fact, you can either the old way or the new way or both(double secret
probation????) if you want.

The only heads up on that feature in 5.2 is that the old way of logging
changes has been renamed Audit Log and the new way of logging changes in the
background has been labeled as the Change Log.

Files?

However......... Epicor will remove functions that are built
into 'reports' without asking any opinions. Such as.... removing the
total number of parts that are on a Sales Analysis Report. As noted
by Vantage:

RE: Call 673397PSC RE: Call #651506PSC

"At this time there are no plans to add the Qty Shipped Group Total
and the Qty Shipped Report Total back into the Sales Analysis
Report. Please provide the business problem that would be solved by
having the totals printed on the report. I will submit the
information to our Development Department. Please be as specific as
possible."

The key words are: 'back into'

I agree with Brian. We use all the user fields as well as VB forms and
would not like this functionality removed. Enhancing the VB forms and
increasing the number of fields per form instead of the limited 20 fields
per form would be a big help also.

My company would not like to see the User fields removed. As nice as
it is to have the option of a VB Form, it does require extra mouse

Sounded this week like Vantage 6.0 will change a lot of this anyway with
ability to put VB Form and User fields straight on the forms (and modify the
forms in many other ways too). Should probably do away with need to have a
seperate VB Form. And it sure sounded like Global Alerts is going to be
replaced as well.

By consolidating I meant moving the user fields under VBFORMS not deleting
them.

Just our 2 cents worth,
