Time issues

If you have Windows 2000 Server then it comes with the Wintime service that
automatically updates the time on all servers in an active directory
environment. It will also automatically update any windows XP or 2000 Pro
machines you have.

You can also set up a scheduled task to use net time "\\'nodename'
<file://\\'nodename'> /set /yes" to sync them all (all the workstations
also) to one machine.

Hi Group,

We recently went live with plant floor data collection. I have read past
posts about sync times with the data collection workstations, and we don't
seem to be having that problem as they sync with the server just fine. The
problem I am having is at the server. We installed a program to sync the
server with the atomic clock, but it seems to randomly jump our date back 24
hours, usually at noon. I can run a report in the morning that is fine,
then run the same one at 2 pm and the date will have moved back a day. I
have disabled the automatic function of this program because of this - I am
just wondering what other avenues you all are using on your servers to keep
the correct time. TIA for your responses!!

NTP (network time protocol) is the tried & true sync program for unix
systems, and apparently it's been ported to windows now. Try Googling for:
ntpd windows

That looked like there were quite a few downloads available.

I stopped using Atomic Clock Sync for that very reason. I've recently begun
trying it again after about a year (on my own desktop) but nothing
conclusive yet about it working. There was a known bug way back and I've
been hoping for a new version that gets the date correct. I was noticing
several times on Monday's the system thought it was still Sunday. Our
Vantage server loses 6 seconds a day so it only takes a couple weeks to get
far enough off to disturb the shop employees.
