Timeout?

Steve,

Thanks so much..we are working at exporting the log now, to possibly
work with the list of information. If not, I know I can at least do
something manually.

Thanks for your help.

What are our options for setting Vantage to timeout after a given
period of inactivity? I seached the forum and found a registry
modification but haven't tried it yet. This seems to be global

not. Is he still around and does he still offer the utility or is

We use the progress registry setting to timeout. We have it set to 20
minutes. For users we do not want to timeout at all, we just give them the
'trick' of keeping office data collection open and they will never timeout.

I have it employed. Plant floor work stations automatically are
exempt. It works for most of our users. It seems to exempt certain users
randomly who don't have data collection open. My OPS manager's never
closes and he certainly doesn't have data collection open. Overall it
works well.

Not with the Progress timeout, but I did track data for about 3 months keeping track of logins, timeouts, etc. but nothing was ever done with the data so I turned off my logging function. It was cool when it was running cause I had it charting a whole week of data at a time and you could see peak license usage times.

Mike,

You were tracking that through your Client time-out, right? I think
that information would be useful to determine if purchasing more
licenses is warranted.

yes, and that was my intent when I set it up. I also used it to see who was always getting timed out and then lowered their default timeout setting, thus freeing up licenses sooner.

This must be a "client" issue vs. a "terminal server" issue? I say that
because we have not had this problem. We have printer issues but it is
all related to Microsoft's inability to consistently support "session"
printers when a user logs in to terminal server.
